In 2024, the Aging Alliance partnered with the National Center to Reframe Aging to train eighteen local Reframing Aging facilitators and kick off a local Reframing Aging Initiative, a social change endeavor to change the way we think about and communicate about aging.
Reframing Aging Initiative
The Reframing Aging Initiative uses a tested, research-based communication framework used to end ageist thoughts and beliefs, and to improve the public’s understanding of what aging means and the many ways older adults contribute in our community.
Ageism, or discrimination and negative stereotypes based on a person’s age, is especially prevalent toward older people, and can cause feelings of isolation, affect hiring and career opportunities, hinder good medical care, and more. We can create a better experience for all of us, by telling a different story of aging that focuses on our contributions, collected experience and wisdom.
